Parent/Guardian Code of Conduct
As a parent /guardian of a player on a Kitchener – Waterloo Youth Basketball (KWYBA) team, I understand that the following are my responsibilities at practices and during games:
Responsibilities:
- Remember that players should be having fun when they come to practice or a game
- Be encouraging, supportive, and affirmative regarding athlete play on the court
- Respect officials and accept their decisions
- Encourage players to be a good sport
- Support the coaches and trust that their decisions are in the best interest of the athlete and the team
- Discuss your players only with the coaches and only at a time mutually agreed upon with the coaches and never prior to, during, or directly after a game
Prohibited behaviors:
- Engage in dissent directed toward an official (questioning of calls or non-calls)
- Engage in any kind or type of unsportsmanlike conduct or harassment with any official, coach, player, or parent
- Interfere with the duties and responsibilities of the coaches
- Interfere with the game on the court or the event taking place
- Act in any manner which is detrimental to the team or the Association
- Utter negative remarks to any player, official or other parents
- Engage in negative remarks or gestures toward individuals about body type, physical characteristics, athletic ability, gender, ancestry, colour, ethnic or racial origin, nationality, national origin, sexual orientation, age, marital status, religion, political belief, disability or economic status.
- Use profane or foul language
- Coach from the sidelines during games or practices
The KWYBA , as a member of the Ontario Basketball Association, support a Zero Tolerance policy regarding behaviour.
Any person who does not adhere to the above Code of Conduct will be asked to leave the facility.
